Their discussion is intended to help unblock the political situation and find a solution to the current institutional deadlock in Kosovo.
Analyst Faton Mehmeti, speaking to “Bota sot,” said that the outcome of the meeting would depend mainly on the LVV’s readiness and sincerity to reach an agreement with the LDK.
According to him, Abdixhiku is interested in an agreement, particularly because of internal developments within the LDK and the cost that, in the analyst’s view, a return to elections would impose on the party and its chairman.
Mehmeti said that the LDK leader had expressed his willingness to help the process without asking for anything in return. He added that the meeting could bring a new development and pave the way for the election of a consensual president, although it is still unknown whether such an agreement will be reached.
“Everything depends on the sincerity of the Vetëvendosje Movement at this meeting with the LDK. Mr. Abdixhiku seems very interested in an agreement with Vetëvendosje, also because of internal developments within the LDK. He knows very well that a new electoral process would cost him dearly. For this reason, he has shown a willingness to reach an agreement and has said that the LDK is ready to help, even without receiving anything in return, solely to move the process forward,” Mehmeti said.
He stressed that Kosovo needs to overcome the institutional deadlock through an agreement and the election of a consensual president. However, according to him, it remains to be seen whether Kurti is genuinely interested in completing the presidential election process or intends to postpone it even further. It also remains to be seen what position the LDK will take, as it had previously pledged to support this process.
Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has announced that the acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, will hold another meeting with the LDK in the coming days.
