After more than two decades of political involvement, Hysa left the Democratic Party in March of this year.
In announcing her departure from the Democratic Party, she raised concerns about how her role as Secretary for Public Relations had been treated. Hysa said the specific powers of the position had been significantly curtailed, while the responsibility and public profile associated with the post continued to be exploited.
She also objected to what she described as the systematic exclusion of people with integrity and ability from representation on municipal councils, as well as the way the closed candidate lists for Durrës County had been compiled.
Hysa described the lack of genuine openness within the Democratic Party as the main problem. She stressed that important decisions were often announced through the media rather than through party structures.
