She said she had attempted to hold a meeting with PDK representatives to find a solution regarding the deputy speaker position, but her request was not accepted.
Vlora Çitaku, the PDK’s nominee for deputy speaker of the Assembly, failed to secure the votes needed to be elected to the position.
Haxhiu calls on PDK lawmakers to return to the session
“The PDK parliamentary group is not in the chamber, although it is now their turn. For this reason, I invite the lawmakers to take part in the continuation of the constitutive session, and we are waiting for them to arrive. In accordance with the Constitutional Court’s judgment, I offered them the opportunity to nominate another candidate or put forward the same candidate again. However, lawmaker Mërgim Lushtaku, who was present, did not submit any nomination. After the proceedings of the constitutive session were suspended, I tried to meet with PDK representatives, but this was not possible. According to the positions they expressed, they said they would not take part in the session and would refer the matter to the Constitutional Court,” Haxhiu said.
Haxhiu said the PDK was refusing to exercise its right and, for that reason, continued the procedure by moving on to the nomination of a deputy speaker from the LDK.
Haxhiu: PDK is not exercising its right to nominate the deputy speaker
“I believe the PDK is refusing to exercise its constitutional right to nominate the deputy speaker of the Assembly, so I will now proceed with the LDK parliamentary group,” she said.
In addition to PDK lawmakers, lawmakers from the Alliance are also absent from the plenary chamber.
