The situation remains critical in Psatha-Porto Germeno and Megara, the two main areas where the flames are still active.
Reporting from the scene, Top Channel’s journalist in Greece, Artur Bibe, says the fire in Psatha has spread across a large perimeter. During the night, hundreds of firefighters managed to keep the flame front about 300-400 meters away from the first homes, preventing its advance toward populated areas so far.
In Megara, the fire advanced overnight toward Nea Peramos. However, according to authorities, the flame front in both fire zones appears to be moving away from populated areas.
After sunrise, aerial operations resumed with firefighting planes and helicopters, interventions that are expected to be decisive in bringing the flames under control.
Greek authorities have announced that the damage assessment process will begin once the fires are completely extinguished.
