Following the killing of Arlinda Zekaj, Alliance leader Ardian Gjini accused institutions of failing to protect women facing violence.
He recalled the victim’s message: “I hope you don’t hold yourselves accountable only after my life has been taken,” describing it as a testament showing that Arlinda Zekaj understood the danger she was facing.

“Eight women killed in one year are eight pieces of evidence that our system protects no one. We are talking about a state that simply does not exist for its own people,” Gjini wrote.
According to him, the case must be followed by concrete institutional accountability. Gjini said that unless there are immediate arrests, dismissals and resignations of officials who, he said, ignored the victim’s warning, the institutions can no longer be called upholders of the law.
“They are spectators to the crime,” Gjini concluded.
