Durrës police arrested Fetah Mataj, the husband of Elisabeta Mataj, the former director of the Post Office in the city, who is accused of embezzling €700,000.

Fetah Mataj has been charged with “threatening to obtain property.” Before his arrest, he was responsible for waste removal at the Durrës Municipality.
Authorities suspect that Mataj threatened employees so that they would give him additional sums of 25,000 lek per month.
His position was terminated shortly after the scandal involving his former wife, who had been accused of taking €700,000 from the Durrës Post Office. Elisabeta Mataj is currently under house arrest.
In a statement, police said that specialists from the Serious Crimes unit of the Durrës Local Police Directorate enforced a decision by the Durrës Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction.
The court imposed the security measure of “imprisonment” on citizen F. M., 44, a resident of Durrës’ No. 15 neighborhood.
According to the statement, the personal security measure was imposed on him for the criminal offense of “extortion through threats or violence to obtain property, committed in cooperation.”
The procedural file was referred to the Prosecution Office attached to the Durrës Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction for further action.
