Michelle left her mother’s home in September 2015, taking a suitcase and her passport with her. Her family was not immediately concerned because she often traveled abroad and dreamed of becoming a model. However, she never returned home.

The case was reassessed following a joint investigation by German broadcaster ZDF, magazine Der Spiegel and investigative organization Paper Trail Media. Journalists analyzed millions of documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice and uncovered new information about the months and years leading up to Michelle’s disappearance.

At the center of the findings is Daniel Siad, a Swedish national of Algerian origin and a model manager who had been in contact with Michelle several years before her disappearance.

The two met in Dubai in 2012, where Michelle was working as a waitress. Siad introduced himself as a model manager, and she saw this as an opportunity to pursue a career in the fashion industry.

In the years that followed, Michelle took part in photo shoots and modeling events and traveled to various countries, including China, Britain and South America.

According to the investigation, Siad had sent photographs of Michelle to Jeffrey Epstein, and the two had discussed the possibility of arranging a plane ticket for her.

In a 2014 message, when Michelle was 21, Siad allegedly described her as a “wonderful person” and wrote to Epstein: “You will love her.”

However, there is currently no evidence that Michelle ever met Epstein or that she knew her photographs had been sent to the American financier. Nor has any evidence been found directly linking Siad to her disappearance.

ZDF’s investigation shows that Daniel Siad’s name appears around 1,840 times in emails, messages and phone records included in the Epstein files.

Contact between Siad and Epstein is believed to have begun at least as early as 2009.

One document that has drawn investigators’ attention is a 2014 email in which Siad compared his activities to those of a “fisherman,” saying that he sometimes managed to find good “fish,” while at other times he did not.

In the same exchange, according to the investigation, he mentioned young girls from Scandinavia, including minors aged 16 and 17, as well as a 15-year-old girl from France.

Despite the new findings, Michelle’s fate remains unknown and her disappearance remains unsolved.

Daniel Siad, one of the people at the center of the new investigation and a figure who might have provided information about the period before the 22-year-old’s disappearance, was found dead at his home in Paris on July 20, 2026. He was 69 years old.

His death leaves unanswered the question of what happened to Michelle after she left home in 2015.
