Vilnius Airport in Lithuania was temporarily closed after authorities received reports of a suspected drone in the country’s airspace.

Security measures were activated at a time when the Baltic states are exercising greater caution because of the war in Ukraine and repeated incidents involving flying objects near NATO borders.
Following checks, Lithuanian authorities clarified that the alert was unfounded. The object initially identified as a drone turned out to be a flock of birds.
The report led to a temporary suspension of operations at Vilnius Airport, while the teams responsible followed security procedures to verify the situation.
The incident occurred at a time when tensions in the region remain high because of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, reports of Russian attacks continue to emerge from Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also denounced an attack on a train near the border with Poland.
The incident in Vilnius has once again drawn attention to the Baltic states’ concerns about airspace security and the possibility of incidents linked to the war in Ukraine, although in this case the suspicions were not confirmed.
