Double murder in Livoç i Ultë: V. R. remanded in pretrial detention for one month

The Basic Court in Gjilan has ordered one month of pretrial detention for V. R., who is suspected of killing his wife and her brother, as well as wounding two other people on October 9 in the village of Livoç i Ultë.

In its notice, the court announced that investigations were being conducted against the suspect for the criminal offenses of aggravated murder and the unauthorized ownership, control or possession of weapons.

The suspicions outlined by the court initially concern the killing of N. B., the suspect’s wife. According to the notice, he shot her with a firearm while she was driving a car.

Later, V. R. went to the entrance of Livoç i Ultë, where E. B., his wife’s brother, and two other people were present. He got out of the car armed and addressed them, saying: “I lost my life because I killed my wife, and I’m going to kill you too.”

After that, the suspect opened fire in their direction. E. B. was killed in the shooting, while one of the other people was seriously wounded; the other person managed to flee the scene.

After committing the offense, he drove the car, in which his wife’s body was located, to the yard of the Gjilan Regional Hospital, in front of the emergency department. He then surrendered to the police.

The court concluded that the legal conditions for pretrial detention had been met and that other alternative measures would not guarantee the successful conduct of the criminal proceedings.

The parties may appeal the pretrial detention decision to the Court of Appeals of Kosovo.
