Markovski was stopped on July 29 at the Tabanoc border crossing. However, after the authorities completed official checks, he was allowed to continue his journey to Serbia because the relevant systems showed no active measure prohibiting him from crossing the state border.

The Struga court said his passport was returned after the businessman posted property as collateral worth more than five million euros. The head of the court, Vullnet Vinca, explained that, according to the institution’s interpretation, the property guarantee and the passport confiscation measure cannot be applied simultaneously, the 24chasa.mk news portal reports.

According to unofficial information, the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Struga opposed the decision to return the passport, while the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bitola issued a favorable opinion.

Markovski, together with seven other people, is accused of abuses related to the public procurement process for relocating production stations from the Oslomej Thermal Power Plant to REK Bitola. The indictment concerns a contract worth approximately 1.7 million euros, while his company is suspected of receiving funds for work that was not fully completed.

The trial has been transferred from Bitola to the Basic Court in Struga. The next hearing is scheduled for September 2, 2026./INA/
