Berisha warns that the “Eagles” and RENEA will be disbanded: We will not recognize Rama’s measures; the padrino will get what he deserves

Speaking with citizens, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha warned that the “Eagles” and RENEA police units would be disbanded.

He said officers who, according to him, used violence against protesters during the student revolt would be prosecuted.

Berisha said the opposition had filed complaints naming police officers and that their identities would be made public.

He accused the special units of illegal actions during the protests and warned that individuals would be held responsible for the alleged violations.

Berisha repeated a statement he said he had also made last night: The “Eagles” and RENEA, which he called “notorious,” would not only be disbanded, but their officers would each be held accountable for their criminal acts. He vowed that they would go where, in his view, they deserved to go for the crimes they had committed.

The Democratic Party leader also responded to a new legislative package put forward by Prime Minister Edi Rama, which provides for fines and tougher measures against participants in violent protests. Berisha called the proposals dictatorial and said the opposition would not recognize them.

He urged citizens not to accept the measures and to rise up “tooth and nail” against Rama, whom he called “Edvin Kristaq the executioner” and “the country’s padrino,” to give him, as he put it, what he deserved. Berisha said no law or force could prevent the Democratic Party from fulfilling its mission: removing Rama, forming a technical government, and holding free and fair elections. He described these demands as powerful and just, and linked them to the student revolt.
