Berisha calls on PD structures in Tirana: Maximum mobilization for the protest against the government

Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha met with the leaders of the party’s branches in Tirana, where he spoke about recent political developments, the protest and the clashes that have occurred. He called on Democrats to become fully engaged and ensure the largest possible turnout at the protests against the government.

Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of violence and misgovernance, while calling for the PD structures to be activated on the ground. According to him, Rama believed that he would defeat the youth through the violence he used, but instead displayed unprecedented brutality.

He praised the response of students and lecturers at the University of Tirana, declaring that the latter had shown themselves to be true intellectuals and had responded with outrage to the situation that had arisen. Berisha described this as one of the most important days and said that recent developments placed even greater responsibilities on Democrats.

The PD leader announced that the party would support the protest with all its human resources. To this end, he said, working groups would be established in every neighborhood and every action would be taken to mobilize young people, parents, high school students and citizens. He added that maximum participation was necessary to remove from the Prime Minister’s Office as soon as possible what he called a “monster,” since every passing day placed an even greater burden on Albanians.

Berisha declared that Democrats would continue the protest and that nothing could separate them from it. He accused Rama of having attempted to use agents to attack the party headquarters, but said the effort had failed. He also accused him of bringing in thugs, in flagrant violation of the law, solely to support the anti-FA narrative.

During his speech, Berisha described the groups involved as “anarchists of destruction” and said that the effort to provide international actors with explanations was linked to what was happening in Paris and what, according to him, had also reached Tirana.

He also attacked Edi Rama’s use of the information agency, claiming that hundreds of millions of euros had been stolen through “his Lindas.” Berisha declared that there was no second case in Europe in which suitcases filled with euros had been transported and called the prime minister unique in this regard.

According to Berisha, the protest had been caused entirely by the plundering of the budget, while the prime minister’s efforts to prevent it were pathetic and had by now been understood by everyone. He accused Rama of using criminal groups at the first protest as well, along with extremist groups funded with money that should have gone to citizens.

Berisha said that more than 2,000 patronage officials and inspectors from the inspectorates had been involved in these actions and, according to him, had donned police uniforms, concluding his call for maximum mobilization in support of the protest.
