During an interview on the program, Democratic Party parliamentary group leader Gazment Bardhi called on SPAK to approach Parliament again over the issue of Belinda Balluku’s immunity.

According to him, the escalation of Balluku’s criminal liability should be followed by a request to impose a stricter security measure.
He claimed that the Special Prosecution Office was acting by applying “double standards.” He recalled that in March, Parliament rejected SPAK’s first request to authorize Balluku’s arrest.
Bardhi said that SPAK should have submitted a request concerning her immunity, in line with the standard established by the Special Prosecution Office itself.
According to him, the institution’s new head has stated that the legal standard requires a stricter security measure when the charges are aggravated, but that this is not being applied in this case.
He said that Parliament had still not received a request from SPAK concerning Balluku’s immunity, although, in his assessment, this should have happened in June, yesterday or today.
Bardhi added that he could not predict when the Prosecution Office would act to enforce the law.
The Democratic Party parliamentary group leader said he could point to the standard publicly declared by the Prosecution Office itself and the different treatment that, in his view, was being given to other senior officials.
He said he would withdraw this position if a second case of the same importance as Balluku’s were identified. According to Bardhi, the other officials were in prison, while Balluku continued to move around freely, which, in his assessment, showed that SPAK was treating Rama’s associate favorably, contrary to the law and to the treatment of other people.
Bardhi also claimed that Rama exploited the Balluku case whenever he faced difficulties.
According to him, when the protests began, the Prosecution Office announced the seizure of one of Balluku’s villas and made the charges public. He added that in September, developments concerning another villa came 24 or 48 hours after Ahmetaj published recordings about the weapons. Two days later, according to Bardhi, the Prosecution Office pulled another of Balluku’s villas out of the drawer.
In conclusion, Bardhi said the impression was being created that this file was being used to cover up every scandal that had emerged from June onward. He warned of developments in the coming days which, according to him, would make the corrupt system more visible.
Bardhi added that it would not be unusual for SPAK to take another action in the Balluku file, mentioning as possibilities another villa or the submission of a request to Parliament.
