Last week, the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) carried out an extraordinary inspection at a butcher’s shop, a legal entity in the Municipality of Vasilevo. Inspectors discovered a room on private property that was not registered with the AUV.
Official veterinarians seized 400 kilograms of frozen meat products, including hamburgers and kebabs, as well as 70 kilograms of offal from the premises, the Agency announced.

According to the AUV, all the confiscated products were safely destroyed at a landfill in accordance with legal procedures. Due to the violations identified, the room was temporarily closed, and the legal entity was fined for operating an unregistered facility and failing to label its products.
The Agency said the case demonstrates the importance of regular and extraordinary inspections, which monitor food operators’ activities, compliance with legal obligations, and the implementation of food safety standards for products that are made, stored and placed on the market.
From January to August 2026, the AUV’s inspection services carried out a total of 74,838 inspections. Oversight covered various sectors of the food chain in the domestic market, as well as imports, with the aim of identifying and eliminating irregularities in a timely manner and preventing unsafe food from entering circulation.
During the same period, 69,776 kilograms of unsafe food from domestic trade and imports were destroyed. The entry of 21,105 kilograms of unsafe food of non-animal origin was also stopped, while shipments containing a total of 122,602 kilograms of food products of animal origin were returned to their countries of origin.
The AUV said it would continue carrying out planned and extraordinary inspections throughout the country. Protecting public health, preventing the sale of unsafe food, enforcing regulations and safeguarding consumer rights remain the institution’s main priorities.
