64 drivers arrested over the weekend in North Macedonia, over 1,400 traffic violations recorded

Over the past weekend, traffic police forces from all Internal Affairs Units in North Macedonia conducted systematic checks. According to the Ministry of Interior, out of a total of 1,426 detected violations, 455 were for speeding, while 64 people were taken into custody for dangerous driving behavior.

The Ministry states that among the drivers arrested for reckless driving, 11 were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, 27 did not have a driver’s license, one was stopped for speeding within residential areas, and another for the same violation outside urban areas. Additionally, one person was fined for driving despite a previous driving ban. In accordance with Article 300-b of the Criminal Code, 22 vehicles were also seized.

The police statistical report for these days also shows that 187 drivers were penalized for illegal parking. Furthermore, 61 sanctions were imposed on those found driving after having consumed alcohol.

As part of measures to enforce the Road Safety Law, authorities penalized 126 motorcyclists for not wearing helmets, a violation that poses a high risk to their lives. Similarly, 150 vehicle drivers were fined for not using seat belts.

Regarding technical and legal vehicle irregularities, the Ministry of Interior stressed that 24 vehicles were removed from circulation because they were unregistered, and seven others due to technical defects. Two citizens were also penalized for insufficient window transparency, in violation of the window tinting regulations.
