University of Oxford continues to top the world university rankings for the 11th consecutive year, while Asian institutions have made another notable advance in the Times Higher Education rankings.

The 2027 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings includes 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories. The assessment measures institutional performance across several areas, including teaching quality, the research environment, research quality, industry collaboration and international outlook.
University of Oxford in the United Kingdom once again ranks first with an overall score of 97.9 points. This is the 11th consecutive year that the British institution has ranked at the top.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) of the United States ranks second with 97.8 points, while Princeton University and Stanford University, each with 97.0 points, rank third and fourth, respectively.
University of Cambridge is in fifth place with 96.9 points, followed by Harvard University with 96.7 points and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with 96.5 points.
Imperial College London ranks eighth with 95.2 points. University of California, Berkeley and Yale University then have 94.3 points each and round out the top ten in ninth and tenth place.

One of the most notable developments in the 2027 rankings is the rise of Asian universities. Tsinghua University in China now ranks 11th, moving ahead of ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
National University of Singapore (NUS) enters the group of the 15 best universities in the world. As a result, for the first time, three Asian universities are among the top 15.
According to the ranking data, Asia surpasses continental Europe in this ranking, providing another indication of the growing strength of Asian universities in the international academic arena.
The Times Higher Education rankings are based on a range of indicators designed to measure performance in teaching, research, research impact, industry relations and internationalization.
