The object was spotted by a railway employee on the morning of Thursday, August 13, at the entrance to the train station in Treuchtlingen, Middle Franconia. He alerted the police immediately after the discovery.
Authorities arriving at the scene determined that the item required examination by specialists because of suspicions that it could contain explosive material. Special forces, Federal Police experts and bomb disposal teams have been deployed to determine the object’s composition and the potential risk to the public.

X-rays have been used to examine it, while a bomb disposal robot has also been deployed near the station.
Security measures remain in place, and the evacuation of surrounding buildings is continuing alongside the investigation and examination of the object. Treuchtlingen, a town of around 13,000 residents, lies between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt.
