Powerful Earthquake in Colombia/ Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs: No Albanians Reported Dead or Injured So Far

Colombia was struck by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake on August 10, 2026, with its epicenter near San José del Palmar in the western part of the country.

The latest figures indicate 254 fatalities and more than 570 injuries. Emergency teams are continuing search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas, while authorities assess the damage and the toll continues to be updated.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs announced that it is closely monitoring the situation following the earthquake. Through the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Brazil, which also covers Colombia, the ministry is maintaining contact with the Colombian authorities.

According to the ministry, no Albanian citizens have so far been reported dead or injured as a result of the tremors.

Information obtained so far also indicates that the earthquake caused no damage to the penitentiary institutions where Albanian citizens serving sentences in Colombia or awaiting the completion of extradition proceedings are being held.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Brazil are continuing to communicate with the relevant authorities and constantly verify information on the condition of Albanian citizens in Colombia.
