Kosovo is facing a significant institutional deadlock as deadlines approach for the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of new institutions. If the process is not completed in the coming days, the country could return to elections.

Legal expert and political analyst Blerim Burjani says that failure to constitute the Assembly will be followed by extraordinary elections, which must be held within 45 days.
“Extraordinary elections within 45 days,” Burjani said, underscoring that developments depend directly on the constitution of the Assembly.
Burjani explains that, if the Assembly is constituted, the institutions will have set deadlines for electing new leaders.
“If the Assembly is constituted, then 25 days will be available to elect the Government and 60 days to elect the president,” he said.
According to him, for caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the most favorable solution is to first secure the constitution of the Assembly and then proceed with forming the Government.
“It suits Kurti to constitute the Assembly, then the Government, and then there will be time for the president to be elected,” Burjani declared.
He added that another failure to constitute the Assembly would leave Kosovo with no alternative but to organize new elections.
“Otherwise, the country automatically goes to elections,” Burjani concluded.
