More than five fires in open areas were recorded during the day today, but none poses a serious risk and they are expected to be brought under control soon. This was stated from the scene by Stojanche Angelov, director of the Protection and Rescue Directorate (DMSH).

According to data from the Crisis Management Center (QMK), a total of six fires in open areas had been registered across the country by 1 p.m. Two of them remain active, while four have been extinguished.
The active fires are located near the village of Bërnjarc, in the Municipality of Haraçina, and in the settlement of Volkovo, in the Municipality of Gjorçe Petrov. In both cases, low vegetation is burning.
Meanwhile, the fires in the village of Banjicë in the Municipality of Çashka, the village of Bidzevë in the Municipality of Struga, the village of Senakos in the Municipality of Vrapçisht, and at the landfill in Dellçevë have been extinguished, the QMK announced.
Angelov said that yesterday, teams brought more than 25 fires in open areas under control. The most difficult intervention took place in the territory of the Municipality of Makedonski Brod, near Samokov.
“The fire entered terrain that was difficult to access, where a large number of firefighters from Makedonski Brod intervened, along with three Pinzgauer vehicles from the Protection and Rescue Directorate. The final blow was dealt to the fire by the rain that fell in the area yesterday afternoon,” Angelov explained.
Another larger fire was recorded yesterday in the Municipality of Novaci, where the flames engulfed a wide area of flat land. The fire was stopped and then extinguished thanks to the work of firefighters, the local government and farmers, who contributed machinery.
The DMSH director expressed his gratitude to the firefighters for their swift response, as well as to citizens who have demonstrated vigilance. He also warned that there is evidence of several deliberately caused fires.
“I urge citizens to continue to be aware and careful so that they do not accidentally start fires. Any suspicious behavior should be reported to 112 or to the nearest police station,” Angelov said.
Speaking about the water supply in Gostivar, Angelov said that the latest analyses had shown an improvement in water quality compared with previous measurements. However, he said, some more time should pass before the water is declared safe for consumption.
