A resident of Bitonto in Puglia, Italy, came just one step away from losing €1 million after accidentally throwing the winning coupon for a game of chance into the trash.

Over the following 48 hours, the Sanb cleaning company’s team undertook a difficult mission, scanning around 6 million tons of waste in search of the lost ticket.
The winner himself said that the coupon “was found among tons of waste,” thanks to the immediate assistance provided by the workers.
As soon as he realized his mistake, he notified the authorities and the cleaning company. They managed to track down the compactor truck that had collected the waste in that area and organized a special recovery operation.
After several hours of painstaking searching through mountains of garbage, the workers finally got their hands on the valuable coupon, paving the way for the player to collect the €1 million prize.
The incident has attracted widespread attention across Italy because of its rare outcome, while the cleaning team’s swift response proved to be the key to recovering the lucky ticket.
