Zana Berisha announced the incident in a post on TikTok. She said an attempt had been made during the night to burn down the entire house, but a large part of it had been spared. According to her, the fact that the family does not remain at the home around the clock may have contributed to the situation.
Berisha said the incident would not change the family’s position or its decision to continue returning. She emphasized that the family is free, has the support of its state institutions, and that the house will be renovated. Although she described the feeling with which they woke up that morning as terrible, she added that the incident would not stop them and that they would return even stronger than before.
The Berisha family returned to its home in Zvečan in June this year after being forcibly displaced during the war in Kosovo. Immediately after returning, the family began restoring the property with the aim of making it habitable again.
Kosovo Police have opened an investigation into the fire, and the case has been registered as “Arson.” So far, the authorities have not identified any suspects.
Erduan Baliqi, head of Planning within Kosovo Police’s Mitrovica-North Regional Operations, told KosovaPress that the incident was reported at around 00:10. According to him, the information was provided by a neighborhood resident who reported that a house was on fire.
Baliqi explained that the property was unoccupied and that no one was inside. Police units and firefighters immediately went to the scene and managed to contain the blaze. He said all relevant units arrived at the scene and, after consulting the duty prosecutor, the case was opened as “Arson.” The investigation is ongoing, and there are currently no suspects.
