Just 24 hours before President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of new strikes against Iran, the US State Department urged American citizens in the Middle East to consider leaving the region or prepare for a possible evacuation at short notice.

The warning was issued through US embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
US authorities stressed that, amid rising tensions with Iran, security risks had increased, as had the possibility of flight cancellations or airspace closures.
Compared with a similar notice issued earlier in the month, the latest warning went further, urging citizens to prepare to leave the region and reconsider planned travel. The move reflected Washington’s concern over the possibility of the conflict escalating.
One day after the notice, President Donald Trump announced that he had decided to abandon the planned strikes against Iran, on the condition that a diplomatic agreement be reached within a short period of time.
