The measure was eased following a request by Kurtulaj, submitted after the SASPAC case was returned to SPAK for further investigation. Prosecutor Elida Kaçkini has until October 30 to carry out the outstanding investigative actions.

Former minister Ilir Beqaj, who also served as director of SASPAC, is also expected to ask the GJKKO to change his security measure.

On SPAK’s orders, Beqaj was arrested on July 4, 2024, on suspicion of misusing funds belonging to the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination (SASPAC).

The former minister has been charged with five criminal offenses: “passive corruption,” “violation of equality in tenders,” “forgery of documents,” “fraud” committed in collaboration, and “failure to declare assets.”
