During an anti-drug operation carried out by a federal task force in Memphis, one person was killed, bringing the death toll to two within four days and the total number of fatal incidents linked to this unit to four since its creation in September 2025.
According to NBC News, the United States Marshals Service took part in the operation. The action took place on Wednesday, as a search warrant was being executed in a hotel room as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the Marshals Service, said agents were forced to enter by force after the suspect refused to open the door.
In their initial response, federal authorities said the suspect was shot after pointing a gun at task force agents. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), which is handling the investigation into the incident, offered a more cautious version, stressing that “for reasons still under investigation, the situation escalated,” leading to gunfire by an agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which proved fatal for the suspect.
The Memphis Safety Task Force was established by the administration of President Donald Trump as part of an initiative to increase the presence of federal forces and the National Guard in several American cities with high crime rates. In Memphis, the National Guard has supported this structure’s operations since the autumn of last year.
