Cyprus has been shaken by a serious incident that took place in the early hours of this morning.
A Coast Guard police officer opened fire on his wife and then committed suicide.

Although initial reports said that the woman had died, doctors at the hospital confirmed that she was still showing signs of life. She is currently intubated and remains in an extremely critical, life-threatening condition.
The serious incident was recorded at around 06:30, inside a vehicle, where the couple had been involved in a fierce argument. A passerby, after noticing the conflict and seeing the perpetrator holding the woman by the neck, tried to intervene to calm the situation.
According to his testimony, the officer threatened him and told him to leave, while saying to his wife: “Tell him I’m not doing anything to you, you are my wife.” However, the woman asked the passerby for help. At that moment, the perpetrator pulled out his service weapon, threatened the witness, and immediately afterward shot his wife first and then himself.
Numerous officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in Limassol have cordoned off the scene and are collecting the necessary evidence to fully clarify the circumstances of this case.
