Farage Calls for General Election in Britain: Burnham Has No Popular Mandate

Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, has called for a general election to be held in Britain, opposing the scenario in which Andy Burnham takes charge of the government without being voted in by citizens.

According to Farage, the office of prime minister should be based on a direct mandate given by the public, while Burnham would not have that legitimacy if he were chosen through the Labour Party’s internal procedures.

The British public is tired of the game of changes at Number 10 and deserves to have a general election,” Farage said, referring to the frequent changes of leaders in the British government in recent years.

The Reform UK leader also stressed that Burnham was not a candidate in the 2024 general election and therefore, in his view, is not directly linked to the election platform on which Labour came to power.

These statements come at a time when debate continues within the Labour Party over how the new leader will be chosen, while Andy Burnham is considered one of the leading names to replace Keir Starmer.
