Kosovo’s position among Washington’s priorities has come under renewed discussion following a message from Eric Wendt, the US ambassador to Tirana. In the view of several analysts, Kosovo now faces greater exposure.
The issue is being discussed following two political developments: the US midterm elections, which gave Democrats a majority in Congress, and the change of power in Serbia, where Vučić’s coalition was defeated by the Student List. These developments are seen as significant for the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue, as well as for the support the United States provides to Kosovo.

Speaking on Friday evening on “Review” on Euronews Albania, a program hosted by Greta Topjana, political analyst Mimoza Gavrani Simo linked Kosovo’s greater vulnerability to the current absence of a US ambassador in Pristina. According to her, the vacant post could lead to a weakening of the US embassy’s presence, attention and role.
Commenting on Wendt’s message, Gavrani Simo said that its three priorities—defense, investment and the fight against crime—are in line with President Trump’s agenda. She stressed that this agenda is also being implemented in allied countries.
The analyst highlighted the role of the previous ambassador as a crucial ally in maintaining stability, particularly in relations with Kosovo’s Serb community. In her assessment, political developments could affect this dynamic, so Prime Minister Albin Kurti should take advantage of this moment as the implementation of Trump’s agenda continues in the United States.
