Gathered in Zahir Pajaziti Square, protesters raised their voices against violence against women and criticized the institutions, which they say are failing to do their job.
At today’s protest, slogans included “Justice for murdered women, safety for living women” and “Put perpetrators of violence against women in prison.”
Protesters also carried banners with the messages “Down with the patriarchal system,” “It ends with Arlinda,” and “Her eyes will follow you, her tears will burn you!”
The protests follow the public outcry that began after Arlinda Zekaj was murdered on October 25 in Vitomiricë, Peja. Since that day, citizens have taken to the streets every day to demand accountability for how institutions have handled cases of domestic violence and reports by women seeking protection.
