Haxhiu warns of inspections and fines for MPs who smoke in parliament: The smell reaches her office

The speaker of Kosovo’s parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, called on MPs to comply with the ban on smoking in enclosed spaces. She warned that violations could lead to inspections and fines.

During the session, Haxhiu said tobacco smoke and its smell were affecting her work, as they reached the speaker’s office. She said this made it harder for her to carry out her duties.

She urged MPs not to smoke inside the parliament building and to respect the law passed by the institution itself.

Haxhiu warned that if the ban continued to be ignored, she would ask the Inspectorate to enter the parliament building and fine MPs who broke the law.

The speaker described this as her final appeal, noting that MPs’ failure to follow the rules could undermine the equal application of the law. She stressed that institutions that pass laws should be the first to set an example by respecting them.

In closing, Haxhiu repeated that if MPs did not heed the warning, she would turn to the Inspectorate to intervene and act in accordance with its responsibilities.
