After her husband’s arrest, Arlinda Zekaj was found killed; brother-in-law suspected, three days earlier she wrote to the Prosecution

Arlinda Sylaj Zekaj had addressed a letter to the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Peja, three days before she was killed. The document bears the acceptance stamp of October 22, 2026. On October 25, the 49-year-old was found killed in the bedroom of her house, on “Man Dedushaj” street, in Vitomirica. Her brother-in-law is suspected of the murder.

The media has obtained the letter, in which Arlinda demanded immediate action from institutions, the enforcement of a court order, and the investigation of officials who, according to her, had failed to carry out their duties. In the document marked as urgent, she expressed fear for her life and warned that institutions might only bear responsibility after she was killed.

She demanded measures against the responsible officials, claiming that institutions were passing responsibility to one another, while the danger continued. She also demanded the immediate enforcement of the court order and the launch of investigations into the officials involved, starting with the Center for Social Work.

At the end of the letter, Arlinda described it as her final addition and expressed her belief that she was beginning to understand why so many murders were happening.

According to the Kosovo Police, on Sunday evening a case of domestic violence was reported to the police, shortly before the woman was found killed. Around 7:00 p.m., police officers in Peja received notification of the case. The woman was taken to the station and interviewed, while her husband was also questioned. He was arrested and placed in detention for 48 hours.

After the procedures were completed, the woman returned to her home in Vitomirica of her own free will. Around 9:10 p.m., police were notified that she had been found without signs of life. Police units and the medical team arrived at the scene, and the medical team confirmed her death.

Initial police data indicates that the death is suspected to have been caused by blows with a hard object. The suspect in the second case, believed to be the victim’s brother-in-law, remains at large.

The State Prosecutor was notified of the incident and went to the crime scene. Police announced that investigations are ongoing to fully clarify the circumstances of the murder and to locate and arrest the suspect.
