Vishkulli said he is expected to undergo another operation and hopes his sight can be saved.
“I have just arrived at Rome’s ‘Sancarlo’ hospital, where I will undergo one of my upcoming operations! May God work a miracle! ALBANIA BELONGS TO ALBANIANS,” he wrote.
The 28-year-old’s injury has prompted many reactions. During today’s protest outside the Prime Minister’s Office, students and other citizens showed their solidarity with him through placards, T-shirts bearing the words “We are all Erjon Vishkulli,” and symbolic eye bandages.
His family clarified that his trip to Italy was made possible by the family, friends and their supporters, denying that the transfer had been organized by the state.
Erjon Vishkulli’s sister asked the media not to use the case for political propaganda and expressed her wish for her brother to return home safe and well.
