The Ministry of Education and Science has planned to withdraw 33 textbooks to improve their quality and update curricula. Deputy Education Minister Driton Sulejmani said the books are for first, second, fourth and fifth grades, in Macedonian, Albanian, Turkish and Serbian.

According to Sulejmani, textbooks for fifth and seventh grades of primary education, as well as two books for the first years of secondary education, have already been withdrawn from use. Students have meanwhile been provided with new textbooks.

The deputy minister emphasized that the changes will involve both improving the quality of the books and modernizing the curricula students will follow. He recalled that the Ministry of Education and Science had withdrawn the textbooks for fifth and seventh grades, as well as those for the first and second years of secondary education. New books for these levels have already been distributed to students and are in use.

Sulejmani explained that textbooks are used for a five-year period. Once that period ends, the books are reprinted, and this opportunity will also be used to update them so that students receive higher-quality books with modernized content.

The Ministry of Education and Science has announced the relevant tender for all these textbooks. Students will have the new books available during the 2027-2028 school year. Next year, procedures are also expected to be announced for renewing the textbooks for third and sixth grades of primary education, as well as the fourth year of gymnasium.

According to Driton Sulejmani, this process will fully complete the reform of primary and general secondary education in terms of new teaching materials, namely textbooks. /TVM2
