Interior Minister Ervin Demo said during a communication with Prime Minister Edi Rama from the Prime Minister’s Office that the police are using technology to identify people suspected of committing acts of violence during the protests.
According to him, hundreds of hours of footage from the media, social networks, and cameras belonging to public and private institutions are being processed.

Demo also said that identification is being carried out even when people have covered their faces with masks, and that the material will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Ervin Demo: Thank you, Prime Minister! In fact, I would like to specifically highlight the importance of the process that the State Police are now pursuing regarding the ongoing identification of violent individuals who took part in the protests in recent days. A number of information sources are being used, starting with publicly available ones, including the coverage by various media outlets of the protests that have taken place.
Social networks are also being used, while at the same time all images from public or private institutions, and from private or public property that was damaged during these days, have been included. Fortunately, this process is now also being facilitated by technology, making it faster, and day by day we are identifying individuals, even when protesters have concealed their appearance with masks. We have nevertheless managed to identify all those protesters who committed acts of violence. This process will continue. The State Police are very clear about their duty to bring before the Prosecutor’s Office all the cases that will be built against everyone who has committed violence against institutions and private property.
I believe the footage is being shown at this moment. Regarding the cases we have identified, here we can see some of them who are partially masked, although this footage was obtained from public sources, including social networks and television cameras, which have themselves documented the level of violence carried out by various individuals.
What we are now doing through technology is processing hundreds and hundreds of hours of footage from various sources. These recordings have to be processed, and relying solely on human resources would make this a very difficult process.
But now, thanks to technology, we are making rapid progress in identifying all the violent individuals who committed these acts against public institutions and private property. They were captured in footage from the public media, on institutional cameras, or in recordings that they themselves posted on social networks.
Therefore, I want to assure all citizens that the State Police will work every day, for as long as necessary, to bring to justice everyone who has destroyed public property and everyone who has harmed private businesses. The police are doing this more quickly and accurately thanks also to technology.
