Clash within PDK over Specialist Chambers law as Përparim Gruda defends his position

President Justina Shiroka-Pula has returned the Law on Amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers to the Assembly for reconsideration, following a request from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

The decision prompted a reaction from PDK MP Përparim Gruda, who defended the drafted law in a Facebook post, saying it had been prepared after the necessary consultations and with particular care.

Gruda said he fully stood by the content of the law and did not believe it contained any errors.

“The Law on Amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers contains no errors. None. I am proud of the work I did, together with the team with whom we drafted this law,” he wrote.

Gruda went on to say that the law had been consulted with all the people and institutions that needed to be involved in the process.

He stressed that he would continue to support every part of the law, underscoring the work, efforts and responsibility that, according to him, had accompanied its drafting.

The MP said he would have preferred the focus to be on implementing the law rather than reopening the debate over its content. However, if the Assembly decides to reconsider it, he called for the process to be conducted responsibly, with legal arguments and determination to preserve the essence of the law.

“I am not backing down from my conviction, I am not distancing myself from my work and I am not giving up on the purpose for which this law was drafted,” Gruda wrote, adding that the next steps should lead toward independent justice that protects the just liberation war, rather than moving away from it.

“As for the rest, we will be here and we will talk,” he concluded.
