Debate in parliament between Gërvalla and Haxhiu over Faton Peci

Justice Minister Donika Gërvalla praised former Agriculture Minister and current mayor of Mitrovica, Faton Peci, during a plenary session of the Kosovo Assembly. She said Peci would be remembered for the profound changes he brought to the agriculture sector and for his courageous stance as part of the Kurti 2 government.

Gërvalla said Peci would also be remembered for fighting crime and corruption, adding that statements made in parliament should be consistent with what citizens hear from their family members and neighbors.

Alliance MP Teuta Haxhiu reacted to the praise, claiming that, in her view, the entire country is aware of the scandals linked to Peci. She also mentioned allegations that expired meat had been brought in during his tenure and used to feed the public.

In her response, Gërvalla described Haxhiu’s statements as assumptions and false accusations. According to the minister, they represented an attempt to smear other people based solely on words and unfounded claims.

Gërvalla added that Haxhiu could not be in her position because, in her view, in such a case she would not be sitting where she is now and would not be surrounded by the people with whom she currently cooperates.
