The Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, has announced that he will enter the race for the leadership of the Democratic League of Kosovo in the internal elections scheduled for next year.
In a statement to the media today, he called on the current party leader, Lumir Abdixhiku, to step down from office.

“Have you heard that I said yes? I will be (a candidate for LDK leader). I have proven myself in Prishtina, I was re-elected, I brought the LDK to first place in Prishtina. I think it would have been good (for Abdixhiku to resign). That is how it should be done,” Rama said.
Abdixhiku was the one who, in 2021, presented Rama as the LDK candidate for mayor of Prishtina. At that time, Rama had no political experience and was known mainly for his work as an architect and urban planner with international experience.
Under the LDK banner, Rama won the local elections of 2021 and 2025, being elected mayor of Prishtina in both cases.
He has repeatedly said that he is not a member of the LDK.
