Bedri Hamza today informed the leadership of the Democratic Party of Kosovo that he was resigning irrevocably from the position of party chairman.
According to Hamza, his departure from the party leadership will enable the launch of a new electoral process within the PDK, in which members will determine its future direction. He highlighted the need for greater youth participation and for creating opportunities for young people to take on responsibility.

Hamza recalled that since 2020, following the transfer to The Hague of the PDK’s former leaders, he had taken on various responsibilities: running for mayor of Mitrovica, standing as a candidate for prime minister three consecutive times, and leading the party. He said he had done so out of a sense of responsibility toward the PDK and Kosovo, not out of personal ambition.
During his time at the helm of the party, Hamza explained, his priority had been preserving the unity and structures of the PDK, as well as the trust of its members and voters.
“I am not leaving the PDK. I am leaving only the position of chairman, but not my faith in our political values. As long as I live, I will remain a loyal voter of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and a member of this large political family,” he said.
Hamza also commented on the decision of the Specialist Chambers regarding the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army. He expressed disappointment over the injustice in The Hague and said that efforts would continue for justice, for uncovering the truth, and for bringing them back to their families and Kosovo.
In conclusion, he expressed his gratitude to the PDK’s members, structures and supporters for their continued trust and support, stressing that the interests of the party and the country must take precedence over personal interests.
“I do not love the PDK only in order to lead it. I have loved it and will continue to love it even without leading it,” Hamza concluded.
