The student revolt against the government is gathering momentum, with thousands of professors joining the protest yesterday in solidarity with students and their demands.
The professors warned that they would take to the square every day at 10:00 until Prime Minister Edi Rama resigns. The move marks an expansion of the protest, which is no longer limited to students’ voices but is also drawing in university representatives in a direct confrontation with the government and the way it governs.

Sandër Kovaçi, head of the Professors’ Union, called on Prime Minister Rama to resign and find a political solution to the situation.
He said the government does not listen to students, and that when peaceful protests go unheard, it will face angry young people.
“This is a government that does not listen. Since it did not listen to the students, it is only logical that this movement would escalate. When you fail to respond to peaceful protests, you should expect angry protesters. Unfortunately, instead of responding to peaceful protesters, the government and the prime minister responded with violence today. Worst of all, we have also seen people in plain clothes putting citizens’ lives at risk; we as professors are concerned. The brutality against Albanian youth is unacceptable. We call on international representatives and embassies to turn their attention to Albania and this brutality,” Kovaçi said.
Prime Minister Edi Rama’s offer of dialogue was rejected the previous day by young people and students.
