In a post on the X platform, Kos said she had held a conversation with Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Jeton Zulfaj. The discussion focused on European integration and the country’s progress in implementing the required reforms.

The commissioner noted that, although Kosovo has faced institutional instability over the past two years, the country has made progress in the rule of law, the reforms envisaged by the Growth Plan, and efforts to join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).

However, she warned that the proposed changes to the Law on the Specialist Chambers could negatively affect Kosovo’s European path.

According to Marta Kos, the adoption and implementation of these changes would run counter to Kosovo’s commitments to the EU and constitute a significant step backward in the integration process.

She stressed that respecting the rule of law and safeguarding the independence of judicial institutions are fundamental conditions for Kosovo’s progress toward the European Union.

The European commissioner also emphasized that fulfilling these principles is essential to preparing Kosovo’s next steps in the European integration process.
