A credible prospect of European Union membership is essential for the stability and security of the region, while EU enlargement policy remains a key factor for democratization, strengthening the rule of law and developing good neighborly relations. This was stated today by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Zoran Dimitrovski during the Berlin Process foreign ministers’ meeting, taking place in Pržno, Montenegro.

The meeting focused on European integration, regional cooperation, and increasing stability and security in the Western Balkans. According to a statement from the minister’s office, the meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of the Western Balkan countries and EU member states involved in the Berlin Process, alongside senior representatives of the European Commission, the Regional Cooperation Council and the Regional Youth Cooperation Office.
During his speech, Dimitrovski underlined that the security of the Western Balkans is a European necessity and cannot be seen only as a matter for the region. In a complex geopolitical reality and in the face of growing influence from external actors, he called for continued dialogue at the regional and European level.
The minister also warned that bilateral disputes should not turn into obstacles on the path toward the European Union. According to him, such an approach damages the European perspective and undermines the security and stability of the countries of the region and of Europe itself.
“With our eastern neighbor we want a European dialogue, not a medieval one, a dialogue about the future, not about history. In the EU accession process, we must transform institutions and build a state governed by the rule of law, not change identity or the historical narrative,” Dimitrovski declared./Telegrafi/
