The incident occurred on Saturday, September 19, at around 3:30 p.m., inside the gallery where Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece is displayed. A police source quoted by the French newspaper Le Parisien said the two men attached the artworks to the wall using adhesive tape.
Authorities detained both men for causing minor damage inside the museum. During questioning, they told police they had done it simply for fun.
This is not the only unusual incident to have occurred at the Louvre. In November 2025, two Belgian TikTokers managed to display a painting of their own near the Mona Lisa for several minutes before museum staff removed it.
