Dosti: National unity should not be sought only when it serves political interests

Journalist Adriatik Riza Dosti reacted after the decision of the Special Court for the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, expressing criticism of the calls for political and national unity articulated in Kosovo and Albania.

Through a post on social media, Dosti claims that Albanian politicians on both sides of the border have united to oppose the Hague decision, while they have not acted the same on other issues that he considers important.

“Together to condemn the unjust decision of the Hague. And never together to condemn first the Serbian genocide against Kosovo,” Dosti writes.

According to him, today’s demands for unity contradict the previous stances of some political figures, who have held different positions towards Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi, and Selimi.

Dosti also recalls the political discussions that accompanied the creation of the Special Court, mentioning the objections expressed at that time in the Kosovo Assembly.

He also remembers the statements made over the years by politicians and public figures about the former KLA leaders, as well as the debates related to the establishment of this court.

His criticism also includes internal political developments in Kosovo. Dosti mentions various names from the political scene and emphasizes that unity has not been demonstrated during the constitution of the Assembly, the formation and functioning of the Government, or the election of the president.

“Therefore, open your eyes and ears and become wise, brothers and sisters, especially you of Kosovo,” he says.

Part of the reaction Dosti also dedicates to the role that, according to him, some political figures have played in the relations between Kosovo and Albania. In this context, he mentions Edi Rama and Richard Grenell, claiming that they cannot serve as unifying factors for Albanians regarding Kosovo’s interest.

In conclusion, Dosti clarifies that he supports national unity, but insists that it be guided by Kosovo’s interest and not by the political calculations of the moment.

“It is truly good, strength and wisdom to be together, one nation and one people, because this is how we should and deserve to be,” he writes, adding that those who “are preventing us from moving forward” should be avoided.
