Data from the Crisis Management Center show that 12 fires have been recorded in open areas. Of these, five are still burning actively, while emergency teams are carrying out field operations to contain and extinguish them. The areas most affected include the Struga region, Makedonski Brod, the Municipality of Čučer-Sandevo, Kriva Palanka, and a settlement in the Municipality of Gostivar.
Stojanche Angelov, a representative of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, stressed that the threat remains extremely high.
According to him, “The risk of fires in open areas is still very high. Yesterday, at least 34 cases were reported. The situation remains critical today as well, although the Hydrometeorological Service has indicated the possibility of rainfall in the western areas, while the risk continues in other parts of the country. At present, we are facing alarming fires in open terrain.”
Forecasts from the Hydrometeorological Service indicate that clouds and intermittent rain will arrive in the coming days, which is expected to significantly ease efforts to bring the fires under control.
