The role of the Berlin Process on the path towards the EU
Established in 2014, the Berlin Process initiative aims to foster cooperation among the six Western Balkan countries and support their accession to the European Union.
The Common Regional Market is one of the initiative’s main instruments. By facilitating the movement of goods, services, capital and people, it aims to create more opportunities for economic development.
The process has also included measures for the mutual recognition of professional qualifications and to make it easier for citizens to travel within the region.
Today’s summit is expected to provide an opportunity to assess the results achieved so far and determine the next steps in regional cooperation and European integration.
The significance of the Berlin Process extends beyond economic goals: it is also linked to strengthening political stability and relations among countries in the region. Its importance remains tied to the fact that integration into the European Union continues to be one of the Western Balkans’ main objectives.
