Edi Rama has responded in a video posted on social media to accusations that he had protected his former deputy, Belinda Balluku, from SPAK after prosecutors sought her arrest.
The prime minister denied the allegation, reiterating his position that he does not shield anyone from justice.

According to Rama, his stance did not prevent SPAK from continuing its investigation into Balluku. On the contrary, he said the investigation deepened and the charges against her expanded.
Balluku is expected to face justice over 15 alleged violations linked to irregularities in 9 tenders, as well as corruption and money laundering.
On October 20, SPAK notified the former deputy prime minister of the 5 final charges, while deciding to extend the investigation by three months because of deadlines.
“No, contrary to what those who don’t know what they’re talking about say, I do not shield anyone from justice. Our refusal did not prevent SPAK at all from deepening its investigation and pursuing it to the full by expanding the charges,” Rama said.
