In an official statement on the social media platform X, von der Leyen described the Israeli government’s move as unacceptable, emphasizing the European Union’s firm opposition to the project.
“The Israeli government’s decision to launch a call for tenders for the construction of housing units as part of the E1 project is unacceptable. We have long opposed this step,” the EU’s chief diplomat said.
The European Commission president’s position came immediately after a joint statement issued by France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy, which strongly condemned the expansion of housing projects in the occupied territory.
