VMRO-DPMNE accuses DUI, SDSM and Levica of blocking laws out of fear of elections

VMRO-DPMNE has accused DUI, SDSM and Levica of blocking the adoption of the new Electoral Code. According to the party, their aim is to create an excuse for a possible electoral defeat and then claim that they were harmed during the election process.

In its response, the party stressed that the three parties had coordinated their actions to obstruct one of the key laws under the Reform Agenda. VMRO-DPMNE believes the reason lies in their fear of defeat, due to what it describes as their low level of public support.

According to the ruling party, the Government has expressed willingness to reach a broad political agreement and has presented a solution in line with the recommendations of international institutions. This solution, it said, also provides for the possibility for the diaspora to exercise its right to vote.

However, VMRO-DPMNE claims that SDSM, DUI and Levica have chosen obstruction instead of agreement. The party added that, for the first time, the government had offered opposition parties the opportunity to agree on solutions they themselves consider acceptable, but that the offer had been rejected.

VMRO-DPMNE underlined that Macedonia ranks among the most successful countries in the region in fulfilling its obligations under the Reform Agenda. According to the party, this is also expected to be demonstrated by the funds the country will receive from the European Union’s Growth Plan.

The party added that European representatives have called for political consensus to be reached on the adoption of the Electoral Code.
