More than 100 homes have been destroyed by a massive fire that swept through a residential area in Norway. As a result, authorities evacuated more than 400 residents from their homes.
The fire broke out in Krokstadelva, part of the municipality of Drammen. The flames rapidly moved down a hill, spreading toward nearby homes.

Norwegian authorities said that, so far, no fatalities or missing persons have been reported. Two people were taken to hospital after suffering problems caused by smoke inhalation, while one firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation.
More than 100 firefighters, helicopters, police forces, as well as members of Norway’s Armed Forces and Civil Defence, were involved in tackling the situation. To contain the blaze, helicopters dropped around 800,000 litres of water.
The director of the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning described the incident as one of the largest fires recorded in Norway in modern times.
According to experts, high temperatures, drought, wooden buildings and strong winds created the conditions for the fire to spread rapidly.
