The United States Embassy in Pristina has issued a security alert urging US citizens to exercise caution over large protests scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, in central Pristina and other major cities across Kosovo.

According to the US diplomatic mission, demonstrations organized by several organizations could lead to large gatherings, road closures and significant difficulties with road traffic.
US citizens have been advised to limit their movements near their residential areas and avoid traveling to places where protests are expected to take place.
The embassy warned that people traveling through the affected areas could face lengthy delays and difficulties reaching their destinations on time.
“These protests may cause large crowds, road closures and severe traffic disruptions. You are advised to limit travel within the immediate area of your residence and avoid traveling to work and schools if your route passes through the affected areas, as you may not be able to complete your journey in a timely manner,” the notice said.
Special instructions were also issued to US government employees in Kosovo, who were advised to avoid unnecessary travel near the protests. Due to the risk of major traffic disruptions, US personnel were advised not to send their children to school on September 16.
The embassy announced that it would remain open on Wednesday, while consular services would be limited and provided as needed.
The notice was issued on a day of particular importance for Kosovo, as the verdict in the trial of former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army is expected to be announced in The Hague on September 16.
Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi are facing trial in The Hague, where they are accused of war crimes.
The approaching verdict has increased public interest and attention in Kosovo. However, the US Embassy has not directly linked the protests to the verdict of the Specialist Chambers.
